BaBel
Strings Attached in collaboration with Younes Bachir (Spain) will bring to the city a large-scale outdoor spectacle of universal reach. Aerial and raw physical theatre combine to create an immersive celebration of human diversity, that will speak directly to every spectator regardless of gender, background or age.
Inspired by the origin myth of The Tower of Babel, Babel [working title] tells the story of those builders who return from their long journeys, to celebrate that their punishment (their different languages) was instead a gift, since they have discovered the virtues of community and diversity. The set, based on a scaffolding structure that resembles an unfinished construction, will provide the skeleton for a vertical stage. Above this unfinished construction, a crane will suspend an 8m long truss that will be the setup for some of the most spectacular imagery of the show.
